hp elitebook  745 g6 touchpad not working. Touchpad Settings is ok, ran hardware diagnostics came out ok. Tried hardware update but I've been prompted that my touchpad hardware is up-to-date. The keyboard doesn't have a touchpad shortcut. It was ok the day before but today on turning it on, the touchpad isn't working but the 2 buttons on top are working. What might be the issue?

If your touchpad is not working on the HP EliteBook 745 G6 but the buttons are functional, here are some steps you can consider to resolve the issue:

  1. Enable the TouchPad: Make sure that the TouchPad is enabled. Some laptops have a dedicated button or key combination to disable the TouchPad. Since you mentioned that the keyboard lacks a touchpad shortcut, you can use the Control Panel:

    • Navigate to Control Panel > Mouse > TouchPad settings and ensure the TouchPad is enabled.
  2. Check TouchPad Settings: It's essential to ensure that the TouchPad settings in the operating system are correctly configured:

    • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad and verify that the settings such as sensitivity, gestures, etc., are as intended.
  3. Perform a Hard Reset:

    • Sometimes, performing a hard reset can help in resolving hardware-related issues.
    • Shut down the notebook, remove the battery (if removable), disconnect the AC adapter, and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reconnect the power and turn the notebook back on.
  4. Try Safe Mode:

    • Boot into Safe Mode to check whether the issue persists. If the TouchPad works in Safe Mode, a startup application or service might be causing the problem.
  5. Check for External Device Interference:

    • Ensure that no external devices (like a USB mouse) are interfering with TouchPad operations. Disconnect them and see if it makes a difference.
  6. Inspect the Device Manager:

    • Go to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices and ensure there’s no yellow triangle (which indicates driver issues) next to your TouchPad listing.
  7. Update BIOS and Drivers:

    • Check the HP website for the latest BIOS updates and other driver updates related to your TouchPad.
  8. Conduct a Full System Update:

    • Make sure your Windows operating system is fully updated. Sometimes updates can resolve compatibility or driver errors.

Do let us know if this resolves the issue or if you require any further assistance.
