Hi @Held11,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code 39 typically indicates a driver issue where Windows cannot load the driver for the device. For the "USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller" on an HP Pavilion, you can try the following steps to resolve the issue.

Uninstall and Reinstall the Device Driver:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
  • Right-click on the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your computer. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver upon reboot.

Update the Driver:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software and follow the prompts.
  • If this doesn't work, visit the HP support website, search for your specific Pavilion model, and download the latest USB controller drivers.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Press Win + I to open Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security and click Check for updates.
  • Install any available updates, as they might contain important driver updates.

Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog, type msdt.exe -id DeviceDiagnostic, and press Enter.
  • Follow the prompts to run the troubleshooter, which can automatically detect and fix issues.

Perform a System File Check (SFC):

  • Press Win + X and select Windows PowerShell (Admin) or Command Prompt (Admin).
  • Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This will scan and repair any corrupted system files.

Reinstall the USB Controllers:

  • In Device Manager, expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
  • Right-click on each entry and select Uninstall device. Repeat this for all USB controllers.
  • Restart your computer. Windows should reinstall all USB controllers automatically.

Check for BIOS/UEFI Updates:

  • Sometimes, updating the BIOS/UEFI can resolve hardware compatibility issues. Visit the HP support website, search for your specific Pavilion model, and follow the instructions to update the BIOS/UEFI if a newer version is available.

Reset BIOS Settings to Default:

  • Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc, F2, F10, or Del during startup).
  • Look for an option to reset to default settings, save, and exit.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the USB xHCI Compliant Host Controller error code 39 on your HP Pavilion.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
