im looking to upgrade the ram of my laptop. Thinking of buying 8gb ddr4 3200 mhz.
but my the manual says that

Hi:

The service manual is for the older model series.

According to the specs, your notebook's processor should run the DDR4-3200 memory at the 3200 MHz speed.

The older Ryzen 3xxx processors could only run the memory at a max speed of 2400 MHz that is why you see all that 'bridging' info.

Yes, it should be as long as it is 1Rx8.

Crucial's made some changes in their memory and the same part number comes in 1Rx8 and 1Rx16 and I do not believe the 1 Rx16 memory will work--especially if you are adding it in the empty slot.

Your screenshot shows me that the memory installed is single rank, but it does not show me the block configuration (x8, x16).

Paul, the user's screenshots provide all the information needed. Most "serious" RAM manufacturers publish the modules' chip organizations. On the first screenshot we see that the module HP factory-fitted is the M471A1G44AB0-CWE , and therefore a 1Rx16 module. The really big compatibility issue with the 1Rx16 chips concerns the -supposed- use on the larger 16GB modules. 1Rx16 4GB and 8GB modules usually work OK. (Read asterisk note on the "Inner" thread.) In this case a Crucial 1Rx16 8GB should work.  Some older laptops, like my Kaby Lake ones, will not boot with 1Rx16 8GB modules, or even single rank (of any kind) 16GB modules. Crucial knows this about the older laptops and for these systems offers older 2400 appropriate RAM. This does however create a possible problem when the system is not very new, but not that old either, where Crucial offers the new modules and they sometimes don't work (as we've already seen on the boards).......

Hello ayususs.

Are we still talking about the Crucial 8GB modules? If yes, then they will work. Your laptop is fitted with a 1Rx16 8GB module, therefore the 8GB Crucial one will be fine. By the way, Crucial no longer ships 2Rx8 8GB modules, so you aren't likely to get that. You might get a 1Rx8 module. This is the problem with these Crucial chips. You don't know in advance what you're buying. However both 1Rx8 and 1Rx16 should be compatible. I generally prefer buying other brands (mostly Kingston) that tell you exactly what you're gonna get. This is because chip organization is not only about compatibility, but about performance as well. Both compatibility and performance in a descending order is as follows: 2Rx8>1Rx8>1Rx16. That means that with the 1Rx16 RAM you get about 30% worse performance than if you were to switch to 1Rx8. The reason RAM companies prefer the 1Rx16 config is that they are much much cheaper to manufacture.......
