My son ordered me this laptop and it won't let me add under my name, because when it was shipped out, he put his name and address. Is there any way of fixing this?

Hi @Donald681

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for choosing HP Laptop. 😊

It sounds like you're trying to update the ownership details of your new HP laptop. While the shipping information might reflect your son's name, you can still personalize the laptop under your name.

Here's how you can address this:

1. Update the Windows User Account

  • Create a new user account under your name:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
    • Click Add someone else to this PC.
    • Follow the prompts to create a new account with your name.
  • Once the account is created, log in to it and make it an administrator:
    • Go back to Family & other users, select the new account, and click Change account type.
    • Choose Administrator and save the changes.
  • You can then delete the old account if you no longer need it.

2. Rename the Computer

  • To change the computer's name:
    • Go to Settings > System > About.
    • Click Rename this PC and enter the desired name.
    • Restart the laptop for the changes to take effect.

3. Link Your Microsoft Account

  • If you're using a Microsoft account, sign in with your credentials to personalize the laptop further:
    • Go to Settings > Accounts > Your info and sign in with your Microsoft account.
  • This will sync your settings, files, and preferences across devices.

If this solution hits the spot, please come back and click "Accepted Solution" to help others find the answer. And if you'd like to say thanks, select "Yes" on the bottom left of the public post, as that would make our day! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
