HP Laptop PC 15-dw3000 (1A3Y0AV)

My HP laptop battery stop charging at 65% every time. But but the charging indicator light turn into white (it shows my laptop is fully charged) but I already say my laptop shop charging at 65%. My HP support assistant app say my laptop battery need to be replaced when I plugged in the AC adaptor , and when I remove the AC adaptor the HP support assistant app say my battery is normal and it need to be calibrate . This problem occurs when I charge my battery. Battery stop charging at a certain percentage . I try to celebrate my battery but calibration need 100% charge on other hand I laptop battery stop charging at 65% every time. So I try to calibrate my battery at 65% but it did not work. HP support assistant app still shows calibration needed. I check my battery health by entering the command powercfg /batteryreport in my command prompt. The battery report says my battery health is 78%. Please someone help me how can I resolve this is issue. Do I really need to replace the battery? Please help me

Hi @kuntalmaity,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Laptop PC 15’s battery may indeed have some degradation, especially since the HP Support Assistant recommends a replacement and calibration isn't working. However, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try before deciding to replace the battery.

Battery Calibration
Calibration typically requires a full charge, so if it’s stopping at 65%, follow these steps:

  • Turn off the laptop, then leave it plugged in to charge overnight. Sometimes the battery may charge further when the system is off.
  • Disconnect the power adapter, then turn on the laptop and let the battery drain fully to 0%.
  • Plug it back in and charge it to 100% with the system turned off. If it reaches 100%, try calibrating again using HP Support Assistant.

Battery Driver Reset
Resetting the battery driver can sometimes help with charging issues:

  • Open Device Manager (right-click on the Start menu).
  • Expand Batteries.
  • Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart the laptop to reinstall the driver automatically.

BIOS Update
If your BIOS is outdated, updating it might help resolve battery management issues. You can check for updates via the HP Support website or the HP Support Assistant.

Check for Battery Saving Features
HP laptops sometimes have built-in battery-saving features that stop charging at a specific percentage to extend battery lifespan.

  • Check HP Support Assistant for any battery-saving mode or features, or look for similar settings in your BIOS.

Battery Replacement Consideration

If the battery consistently stops at 65% and none of these steps resolve the issue, it’s likely due to natural wear, especially since the health is at 78%. Batteries with health below 80% tend to exhibit reduced capacity. In that case, a replacement may be beneficial to restore full charging capacity.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
