Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hey all,

I have an HP Probook 440 G3, 64-bit Windows 10 Pro

  • Current RAM - Samsung M471B5173EB0-YK0 4GB 1Rx8 PC3L-12800S DDR3 1600MHz

This is the System Information FYI -

system info.jpeg

wanted to upgrade my laptop with additional ram.

The RAM I have bought is this - Samsung M471B5273CH0-YK0 4GB 2Rx8 PC3L-12800S DDR3 1600Mhz (Dual Channel)

is this compatible with the other RAM? My laptop doesn't recognize both of them, only the current RAM. It recognizes the new one only if I use it without the current one.

Here I have both RAMs installed but only the current RAM is recognized -

Here I removed the current one and the new one gets recognized -

However, I'm pretty sure I got a fake one because it is not able to recognize the manufacturer, the part number is something else and the clock speed is also 1333MHz. If the clock speed is less then shouldn't both of them be recognizable but run at the lower speed? I'll try to get it replaced but my question still stands.

Is that RAM compatible with my laptop? Should both of the RAMs be dual-channel/single-channel or can I use a mix of single-channel and dual-channel?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

This doesn't happen every time, but mixing memory modules that are not identical can have this result. I notice the different part numbers and bandwidth.

If you want your memory capacity upgrade to work the way it should on the first time:

Install a pair of guaranteed compatible memory modules that are absolutely identical.

If you can find a module to match the original module in every respect, the upgrade to *GB  will work and be recognized by the BIOS

Thanks! I'll try that.

Could it also be because I haven't upgraded my BIOS? BIOS date is in 2016.

Also, can we generally mix single-channel dual-channel RAMs?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, mixing single and dual channel memory modules is also a way to set an upgrade up for disappointment or failure.
