Hi @Derryjr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Since the touchpad was working correctly before the Windows update and then stopped working after both Windows 11 and a fresh Windows 10 installation received updates, let's check whether the issue is driver-related, a BIOS setting issue, or whether the touchpad hardware is no longer being detected properly.

First, try a BIOS Recovery:

  1. Turn the notebook off.
  2. Connect the AC adapter.
  3. Press and hold Windows + B.
  4. While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button while continuing to hold Windows + B.
  5. Release the keys when the BIOS Recovery screen appears.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions and allow the system to restart.

After the BIOS recovery, check whether the touchpad starts working again.

Next, please verify the following:

  • Does the touchpad work in the BIOS menus (F10)?
  • Does it work during HP Hardware Diagnostics (F2)?
  • Is the touchpad listed under Device Manager > Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices?
  • Are there any unknown devices or devices showing a warning symbol in Device Manager?
  • Have you tried pressing the touchpad enable/disable key (often Fn + F5 or the key with the touchpad icon)?
  • Is there a Touchpad setting available under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad?

Please also run HP Hardware Diagnostics:

  1. Restart the notebook and tap F2 repeatedly.
  2. Run the Component Tests.
  3. Check whether a Touchpad or Input Device test is available and share the results.

Since you've already reinstalled Windows and multiple drivers without success, an important clue will be whether the touchpad works outside of Windows:

  • If the touchpad works in BIOS or HP Diagnostics but not in Windows, the issue is likely software, driver, or Windows update-related.
  • If the touchpad does not work in BIOS, Diagnostics, or Windows, the touchpad cable, touchpad assembly, or system board may require hardware inspection.

Please let us know:

  • The current BIOS version.
  • Whether the touchpad appears in Device Manager.
  • Whether it works in BIOS/F2 diagnostics.
  • Any error shown in Device Manager related to I2C HID, Synaptics, ELAN, or Precision Touchpad devices.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
