Hello.
HP has a support video on Youtube, "Removing & replacing parts for HP ZBook 17 G5".
At around 15 minutes there video shows how to remove and replace system board, and only then can you replace the hidden M.2 drive. Before you can remove the system board there's a lot of disassembly required for most other components, so you really need to start from the beginning of the video.

I agree, it's better to be safe than sorry, especially as this was a high-end laptop model. Take it to a (HP) laptop service and have them do it.
Removing the system board and completely assembling the laptop will take way more than an hour unless person servicing it has done this many times - much longer than this 20 minute video. Wireless antenna cable connectors are also a bit troublesome to reconnect without the proper tools (not shown in the video), and prying the keyboard out is a test of faith as well as you can see how much it is bent.
