Hi, after a trashed harddrive I am trying to locate windows11 file for a download (to usb) so as to be able to reload on a new drive, any ideas please?

Hello.

You have multiple options:

1. Microsoft Windows 11 Media Creation Tool. You need another computer and an extra USB drive to run this software and to create a Windows 11 installation USB media. After the Windows 11 installation you will miss out on all preloaded HP software and perhaps one or two drivers even after you have run Windows Update afterwards. All drivers and most if not all software you can download and install from your Z2 support page.

1a. On the same page you can also download the Windows 11 ISO file which can be burned to an empty Dual Layer (8.5GB) DVD. That's the old school way and of course requires that you have an optical drive in your Z2.

2. HP Sure Recover. If your computer BIOS has Sure Recover option, it will download the custom image for your computer that it came with - so if your computer originally came with Windows 10, then that is what will be downloaded and installed. But you can get the computer running as long as you have a working internet connection. And you can then upgrade to Windows 11 afterwards.

3. HP Cloud Recovery Tool. This is available from the support page for your Z2. It needs to be downloaded and installed on another Windows PC with internet connection. You will need a 32GB USB drive as well. The tool allows you to select from the HP custom Windows 10 or Windows 11 images that are available, and has all the preloaded drivers and other software within.
