Operating System: Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

unit will not turn on and stay on. it starts up for 1/2 second then shuts down and about 4.5 seconds it repeats the same thing over and over

Yes, machine can run on main (AC) only. BUT the downside is when suddenly loosing power, un-predictable damages may occur specially HDD..
