Hi @Joeylips
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It sounds like Windows is preventing you from setting up a PIN, which can be frustrating. Before considering a full Windows reinstall, here are some steps to fix the issue:
Fix "Something Went Wrong" When Setting a PIN
Check Your Microsoft Account Settings
- Go to Settings → Accounts → Sign-in options.
- Ensure your account is properly linked to Microsoft.
Delete the NGC Folder (PIN Storage)
- Open File Explorer and navigate to:C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Local\Microsoft\NGC
- If prompted, take ownership of the folder.
- Delete all contents inside and restart your PC.
Enable Windows Hello PIN via Group Policy
- Press Win + R, type gpedit.msc, and hit Enter.
- Navigate to:Computer Configuration → Administrative Templates → System → Logon
- Find "Turn on convenience PIN sign-in", set it to Enabled, and restart your PC.
Reset Windows Security Settings
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Win + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
- Run the following command:sfc /scannow
- Restart your PC after the scan completes.
If You Need to Reinstall Windows
Backup Important Files
- Save your data to an external drive or cloud storage.
Use Windows Reset Option
- Go to Settings → System → Recovery → Reset this PC.
- Choose Keep my files or Remove everything.
Create a Bootable USB (If Needed)
- Download Windows 11 ISO from Microsoft’s official site.
- Use Rufus or Windows Media Creation Tool to create a bootable USB.
Try these steps first, and let me know if you need further assistance! 🚀
