Hello, I've recently installe Xubuntu 14.04 aside windows 7.

There seems a problem with the wifi switch button. It keeps to be organe (off) and I cannot turn the wifi on.

Can somebody help me?

Do a search in the Ubuntu Community forum for a driver for your wifi adapter.

Include whether or not it is a G1, G2 or G3 model in the product name.

While logged into XUBUNTU open a terminal and enter the following commands. Then press enter.

lspci -nnk | grep net -A2

Once you have the information on your wifi adapter you can search online in the Ubuntu forum and at the wifi module manufacturer's website for the correct driver.

In fact I've started to check if it was a problem of driver. Here is the message line concerned by doing lspci

I downloaded the driver tar.gz file from here,

but I am stucked by the stupid question of how to deal with a tar.gz file. Believe me,I've been searching for an answer to this question since several hours, but I haven't found anything, except messages telling me how to decompress the file. I know how to decompress the file, but what to do after the decompression?

Oh, BTW I am using the Voyager version of Xubuntu (https://voyagerlive.org/).

The simple method is to connect a CAT5 cable that is connected to your internet router to be able to go online. 

This video explains how to get and install the driver.

I have finally solved the problem by reinstalling the system.
