Just did an upgrade to Xeon E5345 cpu and got 1801-Microcode Update Error but i could press F1 to boot. After research i notices my bios were old V2.10 so i updates to 2.37(i think it was 2.37) and the problem is fixed.

Hello

this could happens when a computer has a long production cycle.

When the workstation is produced has the BIOS which is current at that time. IF after 18 months there is a CPU refresh, in production a new version of Xeon is used but it needs a BIOS update to support correctly such new CPU model.

In your case , as I already owned the unit, you had to update the BIOS.

I had cases in the past the even the new BIOS was not supporting a new CPU because it was not supported by the PC manufacturer.

Bye
