I'm seeing this error interrupt my boot sequence upon my HP Z8 G4 workstation.

AMT Global Status.

974 - AMT global status does not match BIOS setup.

Any Ideas what I can do to fix it ?

It occurs with the P60 v02.90 BIOS release.
My rollback BIOS is v02.71.

Additionally, when I reboot the workstation, it now conducts 4 cycles of reboots before it launches the OS.

I just started having this same issue with my Z6 G4 workstation today. Exactly as you describe, the system reboots four times, displays the error, then boots normally.

I was able to get the error to go away and restore normal boot functionality by changing the Advanced > Remote Management Options > Intel Management Engine setting to “unchecked” or “off” in the BIOS.

The error returns if I turn Intel Management Engine back on, so this functionality seems to be broken.

I eventually fixed it through trial and error and believe it's a BUG ("Cough cough ... Negative Feature")   in the recent 2.90 BIOS release.

The ME (Intel Management Engine) configuration needs to be switched off....

Try this... assuming it's the same for the G4.

On (re)Boot,

Hit the (Esc)ape key

Select the "BIOS Setup (F10)" menu option

Select "Advanced" from the tab at the top of the screen,

Then select "Remote Management Options"

And on the final screen, deselect the check box against "Intel Management Engine (ME)"

I thought, that I had already tried that previously, and ended up going through a cycle of other checks, so I'm left wondering whether in fact it was this, or a combination of this, plus other things.

If it works for you , then we may be onto something. Give it a try, and hopefully, HP will see this and figure out they have introduced a "negative" feature into their BIOS.

I'd be willing to share all the BIOS settings I have set currently, if it will help, resolve the matter for yourself or others.

While disabling the Management Engine in BIOS suppresses the error, I am now unable to rollback to previous BIOS versions because of the broken ME. It looks like our error may be related to the following HP support document:

The page recommends affected users should "call HP and request to have the case escalated to 3LS to be worked."
