I wanted to put some tips out there for those who might have overheating Prodesk mini PCs, since I could not reply to an old thread for those searching online to find later. Turning off Turbo Boost in the BIOS has seemed to help with both issues. You have to go under Advanced -> Device Options to find the setting. I had an issue with a Prodesk G4 and G6 overheating. The G4 has done fine with a new fan and thermal paste, and had no more issues running with Turbo Boost back on.
The G6 however has had frequent shutdowns in the last 2 days to the point where it would shut off at the Windows loading screen right after the spinning loop goes away. It would not turn back on until the AC power was unplugged (assuming there is a built in timer). I observed boost temperatures up to 100C, and any heavy load seemed trigger an instant shutdown. This is leading me to think the power supply is dying, and can't supply enough power for the system in turbo as it had no issues when I was able to get to the BIOS to turn off Turbo Boost. Without the boost on, it started up and is running so far with no issues at all. The fan seemed to be operational, and there was very little dust. I will still be changing out the thermal paste to be extra sure. Since this PC is out of warranty by about 5 months, I also made some modifications to the front metal cage with a Dremel tool to allow for a bit more air, and removed the SATA SSD cage since it uses NVME.
Hopefully, some of this helps someone searching online for this issue.
