So it took me a long time to sort out how there were single processor E5-2600 v2s, not realizing that they have rizer boards for a dual processor machine. What I'm wondering is, so long as I find a machine with a E5-2600 v2 in it, that it will support a swap to an E5-1600 just the same. I'm looking for single thread performance, so I'm not interested in the E5-2600 series, but I'm interested in the larger PSU in the Z620 vs the Z420.
The 1600 v2 builds are hard to find, but the e5-2600 v2s without the riser are plentiful. I'm assuming this swap is okay, but don't want to buy a machine without confirming it. Thanks for any help!

Hi RetroFyre,
Please refer to the HP quickspecs for a list of compatible CPU's. Not all E5-2600/E5-1600 (V1 and V2) are supported so only stick with the CPU's listed in the quickspecs document.
For single threaded performance you should consider the E5-1660 V2 (6-core) or E5-1680 V2 (8-core) CPU's.
