Hey guys,
So my Z2-G9 has a flat BIOS battery.
To my shame I cannot find on the HP Support maze how I can request a replacement....or even buy one!
Id rather not speak to a call centre...just want to click my way to a working PC
From what I can see the battery i need is a CR2032 which is wired to what I think is a JST SHR-02V-S-B 1mm Pitch Connector.
Which super annoyingly, is different to just about any wired CR2032 battery i try to buy on tinternet.
I guess i should add that im in the UK...and can find these aplenty for sale in the US...but getting them from there would be just crazily expensive.
Can anyone help me out here?
ta very much like!

OK Im sorted, but there are gotchyas and hazards all along the way.
Im going somewhat off topic here....I have a fleet of Z2s to maintain and this Z2-G9 BIOS battery situation has opened up a can of worms that mainly encompasses the predecessors to the G9
Im hoping this info might benefit somebody somewhere somewhen.
TL,DR
BIOS battery change in the Z2G9 is super simple....just ensure you get the correct battery to begin with
Doing the same in the Z2G3, G4 and G5 requires a considerable stripdown, culminating in extracting the motherboard from the chassis...just to replace a BIOS battery.
The deets:
I have now replaced that BIOS battery in the Z2-G3 Z2-G4 and Z2-G5 and have learned a few lil nuggets of info that might help someone finding themself in my position in the years to come.
The Z2-G5 BIOS battery is not wired, its just the standard coin type BIOS battery youve prolly seen many times.
The Z2-G3, G4 and G9 are all wired batteries and all use the same connector on the wire.
The Z2-G3,G4 and G5 BIOS batteries are all mounted underneath the motherboard! A considerable stripdown is required to reach this part.
The Z2-G9 BIOS battery can be swapped out by simply removing the lid and changing the item....my how things have improved on this generation!
Regarding the battery itself, the ones i purchased on amazon did have the right connector, but the polarity was reversed, so be careful there.
To remedy this, youll need good light, a magnifier and a real fine point to unlatch these pins..i used a pair of surface mount tweezers but a scalpel could also be used if in a pinch.
I recommend buying your battery from amazon or similar...they seem more commonly available in the states, mine came from mainland Europe and were veeeery reasonably priced.
Also, there are some great videos [potsed by HP] on the tube covering how to disassemble these Z2 models..yes there are some errors and omissions included but not to hard to see past them.
Hoping this helps

I could not locate a picture of the motherboard for the G9 mini but earlier versions show a regular "Coin" CR2032 battery. If you have located the battery and it is a "wired" version, it is readily available from other sources and should not be specific to HP.
Here is the battery on Amazon UK

Go to the below site and enter your serial number
https://partsurfer.hp.com
Unless I am mistaken, the battery is part number
N09325-001 | SPS-RTC BATTERY CMOS Z2 Mini |
The HP parts store has it but it is not cheap
For more information read this article on how to find parts.
[edit] The part listed by @TheOldMan is good, just needs to be soldered, crimped or "twisted" to the old connector or its wires.,

Hi OldMan, thanks for the reply.
Have to say i have seen the item you suggest and i had rejected this as the connector does not look right.
it probably helps that i have in my hand both the one taken from the Z2G9 and one from another more common Motherboard brand.
The two connectors look similar, but the Z2G9 compatible one has a thinner body [not to be confused with the flatter bodied version also available]
Can I ask, is there something in the detail of that item that I may have missed that makes you think this is for the Z2G9?
fwiw i have just found these on amazon
which do look spot on.
but lets see what turns up eh.

Thanks BeemerBiker, that is likely 'a' solution and the only reason i have not marked it as so is the cost!
Should my amazon 5 pack @ ~15quid turn out to be the wrong type then I will come back and mark accordingly.
Its also worthwhile now knowing the HP partnumber for this spare...if atleast for posteritys sake.

Without the item in hand, as you suggest, it is hard to tell for sure. The item I linked did not say it was specifically for the Z2G9, so it might not work, however the battery would still be the same item, just maybe a different plug/jack.
If that is the specifics, then then jack/plug can be used from the old battery, if you are handy. It should be a simple act to switch the connector. The one you linked looks the same to me.

Pics attached of the Z2 G9 Mini motherboard from above and below. Looks like there is a slab of white foam tape on one side of the battery heatshrink. Probably it is just stuck onto the inside face of the case that way. My guess is that the motherboard has tiny printing on its surface right by the little plug header, showing the polarity. You usually need a magnifying glass and a flashlight to read them correctly... You also can see red/black sides if you mag the pic... red is positive black is ground by convention.
