HP Compaq Pro 6300
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I've found that when setting BIOS options, several options are unavailable.

Main ones are "VGA Configuration" (greyed out) and the SATA controller speed setting.

The SATA only allows 3.0 and 1.6 Gbps, whereas the board is supposed to boast SATA3 (6.0Gbps), but the option isn't even there. Doesn't exist.

I'm wanting to adjust the VGA shared RAM amount, and also be able to use my drives to their fullest capability, but I'm denied these.

Thanks in advance.

Current config:

i5-3570 3.4GHz, 4GB RAM DDR3-1600

HDD1: Seagate 160GB SATA2 (imaged and soon to be replaced)

HDD2: WD 640GB SATA3 (data drive)

Updated BIOS to 2.90 Rev. A (3.04 was rejected by the system)

SATA interfaces

• 2 ea. SATA 3.0
• 1 ea. SATA 2.0
• 1 ea. eSATA  [external SATA]

So, take a close look at the silk-screened lables adjacent to the SATA ports.

Also, Google-search for "download free SPECCY".

Download, install, and run this software.

It will show output like:

Max. Transfer Mode SATA III 6.0Gb/s
Used Transfer Mode SATA III 6.0Gb/s

to show whether the port is running at its maximum capability.

Yer awesome. 🙂 Thank you for that.

Now, if I can find out about the greyed out video option....

Maybe, the "grey-out" will vanish, if you add-in a secondary video-card ???

At that point, the BIOS might let you configure either video-card.

That would indicate that there are in fact, no video options - that is, one cannot change the amount of RAM allocated to the video. For a workstation, dropping in such a card would require an expansion slot that I don't have available (only one left open is the PCI, and that's eyeballed for a fax (modem) card.

Knutz.  Ah, well.

I have a very dusty, external, US Robotics, FAX-modem that connects to the external serial-port.

You pay for the "shipping", and you can have it. :generic:

Hopefully, your back-panel has a 9-pin serial port ????

Using it would free-up the PCI slot for an add-in video-card.
