ok here is what has now been tried.

renamed the USB stick to "HP_TOOLS".

renamed the bios file to K01.BIN.

connected up. plugged in.

powered on.

8 beep and 8 red light flashes.

then nothing for about 1 minute

then fan kicks in at full speed and 8 beeps start again on continuous loop.

at no point is there any video output.

Hm.

The one minute pause and the fans kicking in at ful speed seems interesting as this did not happen earlier if i'm not mistaken.  But with fans at full boar, it's tempting to think something has gone wrong and power down so hopefully you resisted and left it alone for ten minutes.

If not, try again and leave it alone for ten minutes. If it again fails then i'd think the BIOS chip is not good and may be unable to save data without corruption.  The only way to test this scenario is to remove the chip and use a chip programmer to verify it.

i've just left it for 30 minutes.

i went back to it after 30 minutes and the fans were still running full speed and 8 beep still looping.

Hi, after spending days to solve the same issue i find the solutio, if someone searching and have this issue i solve reflashing the bios. No USB flash working, simply i write a cd (with nero burning rom using "bootable cd" option, putting only the bios file without other files, and naming the cd "HP_TOOLS". Start the computer (do not Remember if i Press Windows Key+b or not pressing. Voilá, the PC Reborn.
