Dear EveryOne.

I was using SM961 SSD NVME on Z820. SM961 SSD was system drive and worked well.

BIOS was Failed on Z820 and was recovered(63, 3.94) from USB. I downloaded it from HP suppertor.

After that, I can not boot from SM961 SSD and can not see any information SSD in Bios.

I ran computer by using USB and could see SSD. SSD is normal, but can not set it as boot drive.

What do I have to do for use of SM961 SSD as a boot drive?

Please help me.

Thank you.

Dongmei,

The Samsung 970 EVO M2. 500GB does not appear in the z620 BIOS boot order as a potential boot drive. It does appear in Windows Explorer and EaseUs Partition Master as a data drive (GPT) and in CrystalDisk benchmarks, the speed is amazingly fast.It is by the way, running in the second GPU x16 slot becuase that is the only open slot in the z620 that is PCIe3.

Earlier M.3 designs; including the Samsung 950 PRO, NVMe M/2 were running very hot, and the 950 could have thermal throttling- slow down when hot-but  the 970 EVO is very good in that respect. I made a 73GB transfer to the 970 EVO and the temperature was never more than 42C. That transfer took less than 3 minutes!

Dongmei,

I have not used the SM961, but first, try to reload the NVMe driver.  And next, reinstall the SM961 as if it was never installed before.

Thank you for your information.

where and how to reload NVME driver? Bios? or windows?

Windows 10 recognizes SSD, but I can not find SSD in Bios Boot order and storage configration...

So, I could not select SSD as boot drive.

Please help me.

Thank you.

Dongmei,

I rencently installed a Samsung 970 EVO M.2 500GB NVMe in a z620.  That drive does not support legacy boot so it can not be used as a boot drive, but is very good as a data drive.  The installation required that I download a driver EXE from Samsung U.S. and run the program.

As the SM961 supports legacy boot, the installation may be different: perhaps it's similar to the 950 PRO?,  First, downmload  and run the SM961 NVMe driver EXE from Samsung in your location. See if the SM951 appears in the boor order list.  If not, there must be a special seqiuence to install the legacy boot feature. > What was the procedure the first time the SM961 was installed?

Thank you very much.

I don't know how SSD(SM961) installed as a boot drive. It is a default when I buy this computer.

Windows 10 was installed on Z820 originally. But I reinstalled Windows 10 pro on that system.

There was no any problem in booting.

But the problem occured after I set up bios 3.9.4 again when Bios was failed.

It was good on the beginning. so I am confused.

Best regards

Dear. Sorry one more thing.

Could you see Samsung 970 EVO M.2 500GB NVMe in a z620 in Bios?

the SM961/PM961 drives are NVME based SSD's  and the z820 has no bios support for booting from any nvme type drive except for the very few nvme drives that had the nessary Legacy nvme OPROMs  to add the missing boot code

one such drive was the sm950 pro

another was the intel PCI-E based 750GB SSD card, both of these products are no longer in production as far as i know, and are limited to existing stock which makes them a very pricy item compared to the small performance increase they provide

it is possible to modify a custom boot loader using clover to load the missing nvme boot code to a older bios but this is not a beginer's project
