as i recall this series is is a legacy non UEFI enabled bios, as such only earlier v6 nvidia and amd v6 and some ver 7 model series cards will work also some systems in this series only had a 300 watt supply that lacks the AUX gpu power leads that most midrange and high end cards require to function

this is what HP offered as certified video cards

AMD Radeon HD 6450 1GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
AMD Radeon HD 6450 512MB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
AMD Radeon HD 6570 1GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
AMD Radeon HD 6570 2GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce 405 1GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 420 2GB PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT440 1.5GB PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT440 3GB PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 520 1GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 530 2GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 3GB DDR3 FH PCIe x16 Card

the nvidia 730/740 cards should also work

Thank's a lot! I allredy upgraded the power supply to a 750w with gpu power leads. So I guess I'll try to find a

NVIDIA GeForce GT 545 3GB then, as Im trying to upgrade the pc for my daughter to be able to play midrange newer games.

Are you sure about the nvidia 740? Cuz it seems be a 4gb and as my asus strix gtx 960 4gb did not work.

the onboard video card memory does not matter, what does is the video card's bios

all current cards are UEFI enabled models that do not work in a older motherboard's bios that lack UEFI compatibility such as your model system

you can buy a uefi enabled system off ebay rather cheaply the HP z240MT (not the SFF model!!) and the z440 come to mind

ok thanks for all the info. Then I might have to check it out instead. I bought this rig used. I had no idea that it was not possible to update the bios.
