Peter... I don't think so. That vertical slot will let you get the point of the skewer into its bottom and then lever a bit towards the "pocket". There are springy contacts in the far edge of the pocket which will allow the battery to be shifted that way just enough that the battery will no longer be held down by the thin edges on either side of the vertical slot. 

 

There are also spring loaded contacts in the bottom of the battery holder that can then launch the battery towards space. It will all make sense once you have done it the first time...

I have a much better understanding now.

A) Place the wooden skewer between the chiclet teeth and push ever so slightly toward the large pocket.

B) If all goes according to plans prepare for the launch of a SLO (saucer like object)
