xw4600
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to upgrade the cpu in my HP XW4600 workstation. Actually I ve a 2.5 ghz core duo quad cpu the bios data are:

786F3 v01.13.

I'm evaluating the purchase of a QX 6850 Intel extreme cpu 3 ghz or a 3360 or 3370 XEON cpu.

Does these 3 kind of cpu fit to my machine?

Thank you

The short answer is no.  Now, more:

I built up a bunch of these some time ago and the processor you want is either the Q9550 or the Q9650.  I built using those processors because they are the fastest that HP certified to work in the xw4600.  The Q9550 is a little bit slower but was quite a bit cheaper off ebay.  You can run both of those under the mainstream smaller heatsink/fan we found.  The bigger Performance heatsink/fan was not needed for our use.  Here is Mainstream 453580-001 and here is Performance 453581-001.

That was a nice little single processor workstation at the time, but I'd personally recommend you upgrade to a Z400.  Make sure to get one with the 6 memory slots instead of 4 so you ensure you're getting a version 2 Z400.  There is a big leap up in performance with these.  And, they can run very fast but inexpensive processors because those were used in so many servers also (now available used on eBay).

The memory and those processors for the xw4600 are quite expensive in comparison.  Read up on what you can do wiht a Z400 here, using the search bar above.   Here is a great post to ponder:  LINK

And, by the way, welcome!

No better reply to my question: thank you very much also for the clear advices.
