I would like to try DDA on Windows Server 2016 on Z840.
I know supporting DDA is very limited even in server hardware.
Supporting SR-IOV on BIOS/UEFI seems to be a key to support DDA.
Does anyone suceed or adivice about SR-IOV support for workstation ?
I confirmed :
- VT-d enabled on BIOS
- VT-x enabled on BIOS
- Hyperthreading enabled on BIOS
- PCIe ACS enabled on BIOS
- TPM is updated to 2.0
- BIOS/firmware/driver is latest from HP support
- Windows Server 2016
And I checked support for DDA :
- DDA check PowerShell reports all of device doesnt support DDA
https://github.com/BenjaminArmstrong/Hyper-V-PowerShell/blob/master/DDA/survey-dda.ps1
- Dismounting GPU fail
reports it needs OS control of PCIExpress
- SR-IOV check reports all non support

as far as i know, the older HP z series hardware do not support SR-IOV so you will not be able to emulate multiple copies of a pci-e card in these systems the new HP z8/z4 series workstations running linux might have support for this
for those currious about this please read the link below

Hi I undestood it doesn't have SR-IOV on Z840.
I actually need DDA for Hyper-V however basic requirement for DDA,SR-IOV or even RemoteFX aren't covered by HP workstation.
MS blog with some comment threads reveals DDA support is hard for workstations.

We can eaily find SR-IOV support for Proliant with instruction on HPE support pages :

I hope some BIOS / firmware modifications for workstation enable DDA support in the furure 🙂
