Desktop PC power supply replacement
Hi everyone, this is my first time writing in this forum, I need your help.
I have an HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT (OS Windows 10 Pro) computer with the following hardware:

Intel i7-3770 CPU
Nvidia GT710 GPU
MAINBOARD SP # 657096-001 No DPK
8GB RAM
HARD-DISK SDD 500GB

I need to install a game (Flight Simulator 2020) but the minimum requirements ask to install at least one Nvidia GTX-770 video card.
But this video card requires about 200 watts of power, so the current PS-4321-1HB power supply is not enough.

Is there a power supply with higher power? Maybe 500 Watts would be enough ...
Where can I buy it?

depending on how you look at the solution money wise you are in luck

the 8300 elite microtower power supply while using a non std pinout is a ATX compatible unit size wise and the microtower will take full height cards ( the SFF version does neither)

so you need to buy a 650 watt atx power supply (from a quality maker!!)

https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Bronze-Certified-Modular-CP-9020103-NA/dp/B01B72W1VA

and then buy a HP 8300 elite ATX power adapter

https://www.moddiy.com/products/HP-Compaq-Elite-8300-CMT-PSU-Main-Power-24-Pin-to-6-Pin-Adapter-Cabl...

your conversion price is about 100.00 plus the video card price 100/200 dollars

instead of the above i recommend a hp z420 (with v2 motherboard which has 6 dimm slots not 4) minitower and either the 600 or 700 watt power supply check ebay for z420

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2334524.m570.l1311&_nkw=hp+z420+workstation&_saca...

ask the seller if 6 or 4 dimm slots and only consider the 6 dimm slot systems

Hello and thanks for the reply.
I am italian, i am using google translate for english, so sorry for the wrong english mo.

I did not understand one thing: I also have to replace the mainboard ???

I just want to replace the power supply for more power (I already think 500 Watts is good).

I would like the cheapest solution.
Explain me better, thanks

nowhere in my replies did i mention motherboard replacement.................................

i did mention that a complete system replacement may be cheaper (check ebay italy/europe for pricing)

550 watts minimum is what i would look at for a ATX power supply

Hi, I bought a new video card for my "HP Compaq Elite 8300 CMT".
The video card is a GTX-1070.
I therefore need to replace the current original power supply (320W) with an ATX power supply, but I have some difficulties with the power connectors.
I already know that I should use the 24pin to 6pin adapter for the motherboard, but before buying, I would like to know if I can use the 6pin connector of this power supply for my motherboard:

no, the HP mini tower power supply at 320 watts does not supply sufficient power to allow a nvidia 1070 card

you must replace the power supply with a higher wattage unit,........ and HP does not offer such a supply

due to this you will have to use a ATX supply with the ATX 24pin  to HP 6 pin power connector

any NAME BRAND "QUALITY" 500 watt power supply or greater that has a GPU AUX connector will work but i personally recommend a 550/600 watt unit as this will allow a wider range of video cards/motherboards to be used in the future if so desired

Hi Dgroves, thanks for the quick reply.
Yes, I already knew: I will necessarily have to replace the 320w PSU with a PSU of at least 550W.
What I would like to know is something else: in the previous image I marked an arrow in a connector, I would like to know if I can use this connector (6pin) to power my "HP Compaq Elite 8300" motherboard, instead of using the 24pin to 6pin adapter.

no, the hp 330 watt power supply is a non ATX unit which only outputs  +12 volts

the supply has a 6 pin Motherboard (stdby pwr, fan tach, pwr good)

a 4 pin blk/brown (CPU suplempital)

and a 6 pin plug blk/yellow  (+12) used by the motherboard for all +12 and converting +12 down to +5 and +3.3 on the motherboards onboard voltage regulators, this 6pin DOES NOT FOLLOW THE PINOUT FOR AUX GPU VOLTAGES,

the ATX to HP MB converter requires these connections:

ATX power supply 24 pin to HP 6 pin connector that is a single row of wires

HP power converter will also have a 6 pin (3x3 blk/yellow) connector that connects to motherboard

ATX power supply 4 pin CPU AUX Pwr connector that connects to the HP motherboard AUX CPU socket
