Hi, Just want to know if HP Z640 workstation is obsoleting or it is already obsolete.  Does it have EOS and EOSL announced?

Thanks

@Carter-H,

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!

It appears that HP has not yet published the EOL or EOSL dates, as referenced here, for example: https://serviceexpress.com/eol-eosl-database/products/hpe-hp-z640-hp-proliant-servers/.

The third-generation workstation HP Z640 Workstation was first released in March 2015. This workstation is part of HP's Z-series lineup, which is designed for professional and high-performance computing applications. The HP Z640 Workstation is designed to support a range of processors, including both Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 and v4 series processors.

The point is that, in my opinion, an HP Z640 Workstation is still very much a capable platform, EOL/EOSL'd or not. Unless you intend to use an HP Z640 Workstation in a high/hyper demand environment -in which case you should consider HP's 5th gen Workstations (HP Z4, Z6, Z8, and Z8 Fury G5 editions), you should be just fine.

Any system is "obsoleting" the very moment it is released, and especially once its next generation comes along.  As mentioned, the HP Z640 Workstation is considered a legacy system, but again, 'legacy' or not, can still achieve what you need it to do, depending on the tasks you want it to accomplish.  There is also a legion of companies out there who are specialized to keep EOL/EOSL systems in commercial/corporate domains viable.

Hope this was helpful.

Kind Regards,
