Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Can I use ECC 1600 12800 ram with a z220 using an Intel i5-3470 CPU ?

Or does it have to be 12800e ram ?

Also can I use PC3L 12800e ram ?

Or can I use 12800R ECC server ram ?

you must use "ECC" ram (or ECC Registered) up to either 32 or 64gb then if using more ram you must use ECC Registered (such as 128gb)

while you can use pc-1600 ecc ram, it's pointless with the cpu you list as that cpu does not support a 1600 bus

please read the HP user manual for types of supported ram and ram locations

using memory types not listed by hp is just asking for problems and is not recomended

I have the Z200 SFF with a Xeon E3-1225 v2.  I want to max out the RAM to 32GB. Unbuffered ECC ram is very expensive. Non-ECC is a little cheaper. Would 32GB non-ECC RAM work with a XEON?

you have read the memory requirements, that HP put out for the system right?

read  them,......and you will have your answer. however keep in mind that you can not mix memory types it's one or the other for all banks

Thank you. The Memory Configs whitepaper gave me the definitive answer.
