HP Elite Mini 800 G9 Desktop PC (550B4AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello there.

I'm new to this, I was looking online for suitable Flex IO options add-ons, the lack of part numbers listed anywhere makes me very confused. I' had downloaded the pdf manual for the Elite Mini 800 G9, it igives examples of available options but no part numbers are provided. Searching online I come across v1. v2 & v3 parts? - How is anyone meant to know which one is compatible? I also tried searching HP's own website for Flex IO accessories but nothing is showing up for me.

So basically I need more 10gbps USB 3.0 ports on the back of my machine, ideally on the top right expansion, where a GPU would go... later down the road, I'd like a USB4/Thunderbolt 3 add-on for the left flex port. Are both these possible?

Thanks in advance.

your system requires the v2 (or the v3) revision

the v1 flex boards are slightly different in size and will not fit later HP systems

Thank you.

The Thunderbolt one is great but I'm looking to add USB 3.0/3.1 to the other flex port (where the GPU would normally reside), the odd-shaped one, sorry don't know what it's called, the manual says 2nd flex port.

Also, would it be possible to change or purchase a replacement access panel for the machine? The current one is solid, and I noticed some systems with the same spec come with a perforated top/access panel. Also, would it be possible to change out the stock heatsink for a 65W copper heat-sink for better cooling? Over the next few months, I'm planning to drop in an i9-12900T or i9-13900T processor pending sources. I need more processing power. I know this is probably unconventional but those machines are designed to be upgraded, right?

I've been on the phone to HP this morning and tried asking them for a part-list for what I'm attempting to do. Gotta say, for a new HP customer, they're not helpful when it comes to taking their system above and beyond what's being sold to me. Letting them know I've upgraded the CPU to an i7-12700T caused a moment of silence on the call. Their agent says, "Most of our customers don't really attempt to upgrade the system beyond adding RAM and Storage" 😂🤣

Since this morning, I've also cloned the stock 256GB SSD to one of the two 2Tb Samsung 980 Pro I've installed into the system. Nice having more room to work in.

Just like to say, upgrading the stock i5-12500T to the i7-12700T has made a huge difference in performance... The top of the case is a little more toasty, a little too warm for my liking but the system appears to be stable. I made the idle fan speed run at 50% to help keep the system run cooler. Next, upgrade the ram from it's miniscule 8Gb to a more useable 64Gb.

I'm still on the hunt for the elusive i9-13700T

the flexport #1 thunderbolt option card is a TBolt and a USB 4.0 device

the flexport # can have a Dual Type-A Hi-Speed USB 480Mbps flex IO module installed

you might want to reread the HP "quickspecs" again (see attachment)

as to HP help for a non standard one off configuration using parts that are not part of the listed HP options

why would you think a HP rep would be knowledgeable in this very unique configuration request?

when doing custom configurations you become the main tester in determining if such a thing can be done and if it's cost effective and practical in what you wish to achieve as the end result

to put it another way, you can make a toaster fly but at some point it's cheaper to just buy a plane

which means consider replacing the existing system with something that already can do what you need a system to do

Thanks for the advice, but trying to make a toaster fly is more fun!! 😋
Let me worry about costs. Just give me the knowledge I need to achieve my goals, if you don't mind.

FYI. I bought the base system off the used market for under $200. Therefore throwing a few bucks on parts, to make it better will still be cheaper than buying the unit directly from HP. IMHO. Besides, isn't it more fun to tinker with your toys, rather than let someone else do it for you? 🤔
