I came across a post about using the non-workstation HP Envy liquid cooler in a Z420 and looked into it a bit.... it is being sold on the internet as also being compatible with the Z420/Z620 also.

 

Has anyone tried that?  The post and my response is  HERE .

I personally would not attempt this given the plug end issue unless I had one of both and could trace out the wiring.  Also note that this one does not have the small side cooling fan included that is a part of the official Z420 one, mag image below.  That single plug powers the small side fan and the pump impeller so you can't see possible unique connections unless you open one up:

this cooler is very similar to the z820  AIO cooler minus the side brackets that positions the radiator angle

 

on the z820 the AIO cooler plugs into a std 4 pin AIO fan header (of which there are two) which is wired as a normal PWM pinout

 

i suspect this cooler could be used on a z820 (if you could make the radiator mounting bracket) by removing the jumper wiring and confirming the pwr/gnd pins on the plug match that std pwm pinout
