Fan type and size for Pavilion Desktop 590-p0564ng

Hey community,

I have a Pavilion Desktop 590-p0564ng and the CPU fan sadly broke. The standard AMD4 fan doesn't fit (seems to be too wide) on the sunflower Mainboard and now I don't know what iam supposed to buy. The case seems pretty cramped in general already. Can anybody give me advice?

You don't need a replacement heatsink and fan.  You just need the fan, however you can get closer to the answer by searching google for "Pavilion 590-p0564ng".  From looking at motherboard pictures for that computer and its siblings it appears HP uses a standard type PWM 4-pin white plug end on the end of the fan cable.  Those have two side ridges and one eccentric inner ridge so everything lines up properly when you plug the fan onto its 4-pin motherboard header.

A convention with computer fans is that there usually is a sticker on the center hub of the side of the fan that the air is blowing towards.  On the edge of the fan there usually is an arrow showing direction of rotation and superimposed arrow showing direction of air flow.  For your processor heatsink the air may blow downwards from the fan towards the heatsink and motherboard or it may blow upwards pulling air up from the motherboard area through the heatsink, and out the "top".

Play close attention to its orientation and document that before you remove it, using the molded in arrows as the basis for putting in the replacement fan.

Thus, the fan's label with its info may be hidden from your view.  I've even seen HP fans with labels on both sides of the fan hub.  Use a proper Philips head screwdriver to unscrew the 4 screws holding the fan to the heatsink.  You need to go down through the outer fan holes to get to those.  Don't drop the screws.... if you have a magnetic tip that is best.  Then you can remove the fan and take a picture of its label and send it on to us.  Also measure its thickness and side to side dimensions and provide that.  Sometimes there even is a HP part number on that label.

The fan usually is one number and the heatsink/fan is another so it very much helps to see the fan's hub label.  HP may use the same fan for multiple heatsinks, so it might be very easy to find, and also you won't have to remove the heatsink to do this repair.

Note that depending on the processor you have there may be a different heatsink/fan combo.  If the processor is low power then it may have a smaller heatsink/fan.  If higher wattage processor is present it may have a larger heatsink/fan atop it.  HP part number 644724-001 supposedly services 95W processors... it might be a larger version.  You'll see Cooler Master, AVC, or no exposed label on those in eBay, but I don't know if the label that has more info on it is hidden on the "down" side of the fan against the heatsink.  I would bet so...
