Product: HP Z1 G9 Tower Desktop IDS Base Model
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, I need to upgrade the graphics card for HP Z1 G9 pc. What are the recommended models?

 

I understand that the power supply limits the GPU options to 400w only.

 

Is it possible to upgrade the power supply?

the HP site for the documentation on your models "quickspecs" plainly states (and i quote)

 

Note: 

HP Z1 G9 Tower Desktop PC can support a single discrete graphics card up to 200 W with the OPTIONAL 550 W power supply.

 

so i fail to see where you got the idea that it supports 400 watts or less which is twice what HP states for this model

 

furthermore the base 260 watt and optional 400 watt power supplies  are even more restricted in available wattage

you can most likely purchase the 400/550 watt supply through HP" PartSurfer"

The installed PSU has a label saying that, max wattage is 400w (part number M76036-001).

I would love to buy the 550w PSU. Can I order it online?
