sorry, I first thought, this was a german forum. Now i translatet my post:
I would like to replace my graphics card for newer games. The Zotac GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with 11 GB is currently availeble for around €290. That sounds quite interesting.
Can you tell me, if that card would fit well into my system and ideally without any adapters? Or can you recommend a better yet cheap one for my system?
Thanks and greetings

Welcome to our HP Community Forum!
That depends. A GTX 1080 Ti requires a 600-watt power supply. If your HP Z420 is fitted with a 600-watt power supply (p/n: 632911-001 or 860474-001) you should be good to go, but if you got a 400-watt power supply (p/n: 749710-001), you can't.
Also, the graphics card's size matters. A smaller-sized (two cooling fan) model such as this Zotac model, should fit just fine, whereas for larger sized cards, such as this Zotac model, you better measure its dimensions (LxWxH: 12.8" / 325 mm x [2.5 slot] x 148 mm) for fit inside your case.
For additional graphics cards option, please take a look at this HP System Z420 Workstation benchmark User site, and see what fellow HP Z420 Workstation Users have been able to make work: UserBenchmark: HP Z420 Workstation Compatible Components.
Hope this was helpful.
