HP z800
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've been having a problem with 2 of the 4 HDD bays. Bays 1&2 will run HDD but bays 0&4 won't. I am new to this server and unfamiliar with this problem.

I've gone into the Disk Management but the only drives that show up are the C: and the 2 HDD in bay 1 & 2. I've swapped them around so I know it's not the HDD because they show up.

Just wondering if I'm missing some setting in Windows or the Bios?

Thank you.

the z800 has several HD controllers on the motherboard

1. there are TWO standard SATA 3GBps  (blue or grey)

2. right next to the 2 sata ports are the Intel "SCU" sata 3gbps ports these require the intel RSTe driver ver 4.5.xxxx if using windows 7

3. along the bottom are the LSI (ROC =raid on chip) SAS/SATA 3GBps ports, these ports are controlled within the z800 bios and can be disabled for booting or the entire LSI ports can be disabled. usually you just disable the LSI bios this allows the drives to still be seen/accessed in the OS but they can no longer be booted from

the default drive connections are SATA port 0 (blue Grey) which is connected to the cd/dvd drive

SATA port 1 is either used as a single data drive or left unconnected

and the  numbered cables from the internal 4 hotswap bays are connected to the 5 "SCU" ports with the scu port 0 being closest to the two blue/grey ports

the LSI  SAS/SATA ports usually have the lsi controller's boot rom disabled from within the z800's bios

last, raid 5 is not recommended  on the LSI controller as there is no onboard cache/battery backup for the LSI chop

Thank you very much. I'll definitely check out the controllers and see what's what with them.

Cheers and thank you again!
