HP 600 G9 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello, I was trying to use Hirens disc with external DVD drive on a HP 600 G9 Desktop Workstation.

I disabled Secure Boot and changed the Boot Order to have USB: DVD on top. When I applied the BIOS settings, the restart asked me to enter the 4-digit PIN to confirm disabling Secure Boot.

Then it restarted again and attempted to boot from DVD, but got stuck on "HP Wolf Security" screen. There was no spinning circle on the bottom like it usually had for booting into normal Win11 system. There were also no Legacy Boot options when I accessed BIOS again. All the boot options belonged to UEFI boot order.

After about 5 minutes, sometimes it turned into Blue Screen and showed "Your PC/Device needs to be repaired" with "Enter to try again", "F8 for startup settings", and "ESC for UEFI settings" options.

Other times it just shut off the machine completely.

Could anyone provide insights on what BIOS settings I need to boot from External DVD? Thank you for any input.

please explain just what program on the hiren disk you want/need to use

the boot loader on the disk is not a normal on and this is why the HP security software is preventing it from running

as i have no way to verify if your disk contains malicious code i won't detail how to shutdown your security software only point out that all programs on the disk are available separately from the software maker or from the programer's site who wrote it

Hello DGroves,

Thank you for replying. The programs I intend to use are in the "Security - Passwords" folder.

I have the newly imaged HP Workstations ready to deploy, but someone set the local admin password to a different value than what we agreed on. So when my technicians tried loggin in, they locked out some of the local admins. I am trying to reset the local admin password on these machines and continue the install.

The workstations are not yet on the domain, and they have not been assigned LAPS password or BitLocker code by the Directory and Resources Administrator (DRA). Our building does not allow USB drives... I am not sure if DVD is the only option here. But thank you, I will keep researching.

GetemJeff,

We feel your pain. This is a forum made up of HP users just like you. One of the few forum rules is that assistance in cracking/unveiling passwords is not allowed in any form beyond saying read the manual and contact HP directly. If you can prove to HP that you directly own and administrate the hardware, I'm sure they will help you.

Thank you all, I understand the security concerns now. Wish you all the best.
