@joaopedroalloy,

If your HP EliteDesk 705 G1 SFF's BIOS is corrupted and you plan to re-flash it with a CH341A programmer, yes, the file you need is included inside the BIOS SoftPaq from HP’s support page -but it's packed in HP’s own executable (.EXE) format, so you'll need to extract the actual binary first.

Here's how to get the right BIOS (.bin or .bin/.rom) file:

  1. Download the BIOS SoftPaq:

  2. Extract the files:

    • Do not run the EXE directly.

    • Instead, right-click it and choose Extract here (or use 7-Zip → Extract to sp9xxxx\).

    • Inside the extracted folder you’ll find files such as:

      705G1.bin
      705G1.s12
      705G1.sig
      Rom.bin

      The .bin file is the one that can be flashed to the BIOS chip using your CH341A.

  3. Verify which chip to program:

    • On the 705 G1 SFF motherboard, the BIOS chip is typically a Winbond 25Q64FV or MX25L6406E (8-pin).

    • Read the label carefully and select the correct IC model in your CH341A software before flashing.

  4. Important caution:

    • Always make a backup of the original chip contents before writing anything new.

    • Do not erase or overwrite until you’ve verified your extracted .bin file matches your system model (the 705 G1 SFF, not DM or MT).

    • After flashing, clear CMOS and let the system boot once to rebuild DMI info.

I assume you know how to use the CH341A software for reading, verifying, and writing the BIOS chip safely?

Kind Regards,

@joaopedroalloy,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Here you go: HP EliteDesk 705 G1 Base Model Small Form Factor PC Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support, and the most recent BIOS version is 00.02.31 Rev.A.

The BIOS of my HP EliteDesk 705 G1 SFF is corrupted. I need the file to use with my CH341 EEPROM programmer. In the link you sent me, is the file included? If so, could you give me a tutorial on how to find it?

attempting to use a hardware programer to flash this systems bios will usually not work as the  hardware flash will be missing important information such as the motherboards mac address, the feature bytes "DMI"  information and some "ME" management information settings and you will be unable to edit the DMI feature bytes information or the "ME" as the existing motherboard will remain in a locked state preventing any changes

a motherboard replacement or system upgrade is usually the only worthwhile option

@joaopedroalloy,

Yea: speaking from experience, "usually" is correct...

FYI, a hardware Bios flash to a corrupted motherboard bios (or new programed bios chip installed) worked back in the XT through 286/386/486 and pentium 1  through 3 era motherboards as most legacy motherboards did not store the onboard ethernet information in the main bios but in a separate Nic specific bios chip if it had a onboard network feature and the bios file mfgr's posted was the full bios, newer EFI based systems use bios files that are not the full bios but only a partial bios as some information in the motherboards bios is protected from being written to and if you try to flash the partial bios it will most likely be written in the wrong memory location/address by the programer

same for motherboard "DMI" type options they did not come into play until EFI/UEFI bios's and are not usually updated when applying a mfgr's bios update

while i do know that some experienced people managed to find the bios locations for the Mac address sometimes where it was printed on a label attached to the motherboard, the "DMI/ME" information is a much much harder  thing to attempt
