HP t740 Thin Client (5PD46AV)
Microsoft Windows 10 IOT

Hi all,

I captured an HP Easy Shell profile from a thinclient T740 and i'm deploying it to all new TC via HP device manager task.

Settings are applied succefully but when i restart the thinclient with the user USER (autologon mode) HP Easy Shell doesn't start automatically.

I switched to Admin mode, I started the HP Easy Shell Config and all setting was ok, so I disable the Kiosk Mode, I clicked on Apply and then I enable again Kiosk Mode and save again.

I rebooted the thinclient and all works.

How i can solve this issue without logging with Admin?

I'm using HP Easy Shell 4.0.8.0

Thanks

Hi, you can try these steps to see if they will fix the issue you are facing.

Type Easy Shell into the taskbar search box, and then select the HP Easy Shell app.

Open Control Panel and select HP Easy Shell Configuration.

NOTE: You will be prompted for administrator credentials if you are logged on to Windows as a standard user.

The typical process for using HP Easy Shell to configure the environment for standard users is as follows:

Open the HP Easy Shell Configuration utility

Enable Kiosk mode, and configure the environment for standard users and be sure to select Apply to apply the configuration.

If you are configuring HP Easy Shell from an administrator account, log off, and then log on as a standard user.

If you are configuring HP Easy Shell from a standard user account and you switched to the configuration utility using the Admin button, select Exit to return to the standard user interface.

Make sure that the environment is configured as needed. If it is not, return to HP Easy Shell Configuration to make additional changes.

The configuration can be deployed to other thin clients

If you log on to an administrator account while User Account Control is enabled (in Windows) and kiosk mode is enabled (in HP Easy Shell), you will be presented with a User Account Control dialog asking for permission to make changes to the computer. If you select No, Windows will not allow HP Easy Shell to become a shell replacement and will be stuck at the logon process. Use Ctrl+Alt+Del to log off the account if this happens. You must select Yes at the User Account Control dialog to successfully complete the logon process.

Hi,

it's what I did but when I deploy the config to a new thinclient, kiosk mode doesn't start automatically. If I go to Admin mode and I disable/apply/enable/apply the kiosk mode it start to work.

Doing a "reverse engineering of the process" I found When I click Aplly HP EasyShell config mode:

- it modify file C:\Program Files\HP\HP Easy Shell\ShellLauncher.xml

- it start a powershell script on "C:\Program Files\HP\HP Easy Shell\SetShellLauncher.ps1" which read the xml and apply a config

So I captured the ShellLauncher.xml with kiosk mode enabled and I created a template witch deploy the file execute the powershell script and reboot the TC

Doing this it works correctly but i think it's a workaround for a HP EasyShell bug

I made a Template on HP DM which deploy the file i

So at this point is it safe to say that you have been able to figure out the issue you are facing?

I found a workaround and it works so I solved my problem but it's not a "clean" solution

Okay great, as long as you can work then no problem.
