Hi,
Does the HP Pro Tower 400 G9 support ECC memory?
I know it's comes pre-installed with non-ECC memory. But if I would upgrade to ECC memory, would it be compatible (mother board / BIOS)?
There is no reference in the specs for it (as opposed to some Z.. workstations)

Thanks!

Let me answer my own question:
As it uses the Intel Q670 chipset, https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/218827/intel-q670-chipset/specifications.html , which doesn't support ECC memory. It is clear that it is not supported...

That is interesting to know. When I looked up the fastest processor in that HP specs link you provided, at the Intel "Ark" site HERE, the processor is stated to support use of ECC memory:
However, I think you're right that the chipset's limitation would overrule the processor's capabilities.

to "SDH" your observation on the chipset is correct regarding ECC memory support
currently intel's stance on ECC is to restrict it to Xeon based systems/chipsets and not the "consumer "i" 3/5/7 cpu's/chipsets in order to have a price difference the two
however this was not always the case , earlier chipsets in the consumer space could support xeon/ECC even though it was not a officially supported feature by the motherboard maker in most cases
my Asus x99 motherboard will happily run ECC ram when the board is equipped with a xeon cpu even though asus never officially supported this feature
