I just finished deploying 16 new HP t530 thin clients running the HP ThinPro operating system (Linux). The thin clients connect to a Windows terminal server via Remote Desktop Protocol.
When users are required to change their password on the Windows domain, HP ThinPro returns a very confusing error message if the user enters a password that doesn't meet the minimum password requirements. The error message reads as follows:
Password Change Failed
WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated
machine 192.168.16.5 rejected the password change: Error was : Password restriction.
You'd think HP could make this error message more user friendly. I received several support calls because users don't understand what the error message means, especially the part that says "The syslog option is deprecated."
Is this something HP could address in a future software update?

this forum is not made up of HP support people, while they do check this forum from time to time a question like yours
should be directed to HP support instead of this user support forum
recent versions of the samba SMBclient will generate the warring message you are getting
to resolve the warning prompt check if the syslog and or syslog only option is present in smb.conf
and replace it with logging = syslog@0 file
this should fix your error msg

Before posting to this forum I tried contacting HP support through their website, but after entering the product serial number it returns the message "This product is no longer serviced by HP. You may search for possible solutions on this support website."
These are brand new t530 thin clients with a three year warranty, running the latest version of the HP ThinPro operating system. I'm using the built-in Remote Desktop Connection client.
I was just surprised to find the default configuration of the latest build of a brand new device would display a confusing message to the end user like "WARNING: The "syslog" option is deprecated" when they attempt to change their password.
I'll investigate whether there's an option in HP Smart Client Services to edit smb.conf and push out the change to the thin clients. Thanks for the tip.

I would still contact HP support via voice or email as i find it strange that the current software release of thinpro is not being serviced/supported by HP
i think that the t530 is a older product with support through hp or approved hp resellers with a optional (at time of purchase only) 3 year warranty extension
and the t630 line is the newer model
