Hi, I've got HP Z820 and HP Z Turbo Drive G2 with Samsung SM951 NVMe M.2 PCIe, as far as I know, I cannot boot with this SSD, so I want to buy Samsung 950 PRO, but I would like to know if I can use HP Z Turbo Drive G2 as a M.2 to PCIe adapter for 950 PRO
Thanks a lot in advance!

the same HP pci-e m.2 board is used for both models of the turbo drive only the ssd itself is different
if you can't find a 950 pro, or the price is to high
you can also use mid 2013-2016 apple ssd's (Gen 3/Gen 4) in the z820 as a bootable ssd using a a pci-e card with the apple weirdware m.2 lookalike connector (see previous posts by me on this)
there also exists a software solution (REFIND/DUET) that allows the missing nvme code to be loaded during the bios startup so that any nvme ssd will boot (again see previous posts on this subject)
i do have some HP turbo drives available for sale (PM me) but as you have the pci-e card, it should be cheaper for you to just buy a SSD

actually you can boot from nvme drives on the z800/z820 systems using nvme drives
download the 2020 release
pm me if you have any questions, i recommend you search this forum for previous posts on z800 and z820 nvme boot as i've posted previously on this subject ( i own both z workstations 800/820 and have booted from nvme on both)
