Hello. The current Quadro K4000M GPU on my HP Z1 All In One Workstation(Gen 1) has been less than optimal due to lack of current drivers(last NVIDIA driver was released 2020). Can I upgrade to a Quadro P4000 mobile GPU? The Quadro K4000M was listed as the high end option for the system so I need advice from the experts if a Quadro P4000 GPU is compatible with the system. I use it mainly for processing in Davinci Resolve. Thanks for the assistance.

i suspect you actually did a auto install by selecting Search automatically for updated driver

to do a manual install, select the device (video card in this case) in device manager,

and select BROWSE MY COMPUTER FOR DRIVERS

now select LET ME PICK FROM A LIST.........

now click on have disk button, then browse, select extracted nvidia driver folder (Display.Driver)

as i previously said the p4000 card is a direct replacement for the K4000M physically and electrically and has the same thermal wattage as such it's direct drop-in replacement the only possible issue is if the AIO's bios  has a white list of approved cards,,,,, this i can't answer i recommend if you do go this route to buy from a seller who takes returns and be upfront with the seller before buying explaining that you are not sure if the card is compatible with your systems bios

here is the current Quadro K4000M compatible driver, note the release date is May 2022,

don't know why you think driver support ended in 2020

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/189202/en-us

Last the K4000M is not a desktop compatible card, it will not physically fit in a desktop system as it's a MXM laptop format

the driver i linked to is compatible with the both cards K4000 PCI-E card/K4000M MXM laptop card

Version:R470 U9 (473.47)  WHQL
Release Date:2022.5.16
Operating System:Windows 10 64-bit, Windows 11

Hi Groves Thanks for the prompt response. Linked below is the last driver release for the Quadro K4000M. https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/160351/en-us The Quadro K4000M was built for laptops like you pointed out but my system(HP Z1) is an All In One Workstation which happens to use the Quadro K4000M. Check the "supported products" section of the link you sent. Quadro K4000M wasn't listed. So the K4000 and K4000M don't have same support. I've been looking at the Quadro P4000 mobile GPU card cos it seems compatible on paper with my system. But given that the Quadro K4000M was listed by HP as the highest end GPU for my system I need to be sure that the P4000 will be compatible with my system. On the other hand if I could get the K4000 driver to work with the K4000M card I'll be very grateful. Previous tries failed. Thanks once again for your prompt and detailed response.

click on the nvidia link i provided,

https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/189202/en-us

download the driver, uncompress the installer package using winzip/winrar or let the setup installer start the setup, and then cancel the install when it gets to the select which parts to install  (driver, physX) now click on the video card in device driver and do a manual driver update it will then load the latest driver without a problem

what issue/problem are you having with your current driver under what release of your OS?

the p4000-mobile  uses the same card layout as your current card as both are MXM 3.01b and the power draw is similar for both (100 Watt) so the factory cooling  is also not a issue

a k4000m to p400-mobile is a direct swap with no modding required

Hi Grove I'll try your installation procedure. I've not been able to use Davinci Resolve 17 which requires a driver later than the latest provided by NVIDIA for Quadro K4000M. (Windows 10) Thanks for your assistance so far. I'll update you on how the driver update goes. Cheers!

Hi Grove. Followed your installation procedure and ended with a prompt saying no hardware was detected for the driver update. At this point I'll rather focus on acquiring a supported GPU which is compatible with my system. Yea, I chose the Quadro P4000 mobile cos it was quite close to the Quadro K4000M spec wise and also budget friendly. I simply need to be sure it's totally compatible with the HP Z1 Workstation. Advice from a HP technical staff will be very much appreciated. Reaching them directly is proving too difficult. Then again if there's someone within the HP community who've actually installed and run a Quadro P4000 mobile GPU in a HP Z1 successfully I'll really appreciate the heads up. Cheers
