HP Z1G2 workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Installed a 1 TB hard drive and started the computer.

Computer would not post and noticed a puff of smoke from the rear of the machine.

Quickly unplugged the machine and notice the new SSD was very hot.

I took out the SSD and left in the original SSD, but the computer would not beep: just four beeps with a red light, then a two second rest and then 4 red beeps again.

I disconnected all components, except the power supply and the graphics card and plugged in the unit. I notice the green light on the power supply was on, but turned off when I pushed the power button. The computer would not boot and repeated the 4 beeps.

Question: do you think I fried my mother board or the power supply.

Any help would be appreciated.

If this has happened to me, then this has probably happened to someone else.

Thanks
