I have an HP Z220, and it is very slow to boot because of the normal HDD. I bought the M.2 NVMe to PCIe 3.0/4.0 x4 adapter and Crucial 500GB P3 NVMe PCIe 3.0 M.2 internal SSD. This M.2 NVMe to PCIe 3.0/4.0 x4 adapter card, which is connected in the PCIe 3.0 slot. Unfortunately, this NVMe is not detected in BIOS. However, when the operating system loads, this NVMe SSD is recognized in the operating system as a D drive. Is there any way to boot the operating system from the NVMe SSD instead of the normal HDD?

no the HP z220/z230 models are unable to boot from a nvme SSD

they can only boot from a SATA interface,

as such you will need a ssd that supports the sata interface (not nvme)

your nvme drive can be used as a non bootable data drive

simply look for a 2.5in SATA ssd like these,

https://www.amazon.com/2-5-ssd/s?k=2.5+ssd

and you might also want

a 2.5 to 3.5 HD adapter to mount the 2.5in ssd in the computers 3.5in drive bay

bootable nvme support only started in the z240 and later models
