Hi,
since I use to keep opened a lot of programs (mainly Visual Studio, SQL Management Studio, browser, Outlook etc) when I have to shutdown the workstation I always put it into hibernation so that after turning it on I already have all my "tools" running.
Lately when I put the machine into hibernation the screen become black (and then goes to standby), fans increase their speed and the machine stays into this "state" for an unlimited time so that I have to turn it off by holding the power button pressed.
At the next power on, it boots like I had turned it off with "turn off the system" and I have to open every program again (thus it didn't execute hibernation).
If I close every program and turn it off "normally", it shutdown correctly.
What should I check?
The hardware configuration is:
- CPU XEON E5-1620
- RAM 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3 1600 MHz UDIMM (waiting for further 4x4GB to expand memory)
- main HDD ---> SSD Samsung 870 EVO 512 GB
- secondary HDD: Western Digital Blue 4TB
Thank you, regards.
Roberto

hibernation issues are extremely hard to fix, and doing so remotely next to impossible
you appear to have a program or task that is crashing the OS what have you added or changed recently?
you might also consider adding more ram, and checking the available free space on the "OS" drive
usually the only fix is to redo the OS, adding one or two apps/programs at a time, testing hibernation while making restore snapshots in-between adding programs/apps as this will allow you to id which program/app is pushing it over the edge

Well...all the programs were installed when I fresh reinstalled the OS one month ago.
Maybe I found what is preventing the machine going into hibernation: Samsung Magician and WD Dashboard, that I keep running in background.
I closed them and the machine hibernated.
I usually keep "running" background programs at minimum but I will try to remember to close them before hibernation.
Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately another issue came out a few days ago 😞
The pc correctly hibernates but when I turn it on, it boots from hibernation but after a few seconds during the boot it suddendly turns off.
If I turn it on again, it boots correctly to the desktop but it's like I had turned it off with "shutdown".
What could I check?
I didn't install any new program or update any driver.
Thank you, regards.
