Hi All,
As for my previous posts, I’ve got a second-hand Z620 with dual Xeon where I managed to install Windows 11 Pro (23H2) – everything seems to work great, so far (a huge thank you to SDH and Paul for their excellent assistance).
I need now to use Windows Sandbox to test out software integration between Visual Studio 2022 and third parties proprietary SDKs. A quick and light virtual environment would be helpful before proceeding with the full installation of all components (I may go down the Hyper-V route later on).
At present, the Windows Sandbox checkbox in “Windows Feature” is greyed out as the VTx option in the Bios is disabled.
Question : do I just need to enable VTx to start using the Sandbox or do I need to change other Bios settings? Also, on a more general note, why the Virtualization is by default switched off (I noticed the same on my HP Laptops), is this related to security and potential hackers attacks or is it just down to performances?
As always, thanks for all your help! 😊
JC

turning on "Vtx" can possibly cause issues with some software, also
because it's a hardware virtualization extension that can't be shared between virtualization applications.
for example, VT-x is disabled automatically when Hyper-V is enabled.
also, vtx when enabled may affect attached peripheral access which is why this feature is usually disabled as most users do not need/use this feature
