Mickey,

Don't touch that.

Pcie-x16 cables.... Most Z620s, if not all, have two of those.  They're plugged into the side of the bottom front case fan that blows backwards into the case.  There are two little spaces HP molded into that black plastic fan holder there, and many think those cables are actually plugged into something electrical there.  They are plugged into two empty plastic holders for the end of those two cables.  Go find those..... they are ready to be used, and those HP cables have quite a bit of power capability.

12 volts times 18 amps for each cable equals how many watts?  That is how much wattage each of those HP cables can carry out to the card.  75 watts up from the slot plus 12x18 = how much wattage is available for your card if you just use one of those two HP cables plus the normal slot power.

Your post indicates you may be wise to hire this project out......

Your tip about the two spare 6 pin cables plugged into the black plastic is a life saver. I went through the Maintenance and User manual a few times and didn't see anything obvious.

Like Mickey I was also wondering about those R1 pins, and landed on this page through a search.

Thanks for the great info, saves me from buying a SATA to 6pin adapter!
