HP Z8 G4 Workstation

Hey, I have a Hp Z8 G4 Workstation. I think it's an early gen. I am having new graphics card issues.

I have upgraded the bios to the latest.

I have purchased 2 x Nvidia A5000 Rtx gpu's.

Randomly, when both graphics cards are inserted, I get an error every few days or so, or once a week.

I get this:

POST Error

928-Fatal PCIe error.

PCIe Completion Timeout error detected on Slot 2. B:2D D:0 F:0

Have also got it on Slot 4. B:15 D:0 F:0

and

Slot 6. B:99 D:0 F:0

I have tested moving cards in different slots.

Also tried in the bio making the speed slower.

Still get the error.

So far, just using 1 gpu seems to not display this error.

The error might have every few days, so it works for a while, then error.

Thanks for any help.

many things can cause a pcie-928 error

Bios

drivers (video and other installed card drivers)

bios PCI-e slot settings

poor pci-e slot connections (usually due to a improperly seated card)

system unable to provide the necessary 75 watts to each video card (very unlikely on a Z8 based workstation)

however you could still have a power related problem:

this workstation is approved for dual 250 watt cards (quadro p6000) however i don't know if this setup requires one of the two upgraded power supplies the stock supply is a 1125 watt with upgraded 1450 and a 1700 watt units available

checking the HP sites specs for this model shows that the 1450 supply is used when dual 250 watt cards are installed

see attached pdf

Do you think having a dual gold cpu + 2 A5000 would be too much?

The sticker on psu says:

50/60Hz

100V~ / 16A

115-127V~ / 16A

200-240V~ / 10A

Thanks for your comments. I have moved around the cards multiple times into various slots. Maybe I need to look at drivers / bios updates if there are any more. Thanks
