Hi,

I have a HP G8 Z4 that gives me a memory initialization error message on CPU0-DIMM3. I know the DIMM is not the issue so what could it be? Motherboard? Processor? ( I am mentioning the processor because as far as I know with the XEON, the memory controller is built in the CPU).

 Thanks for the help.

Something seems wrong.

You listed windows 10 32bit but your system is 64 bit and normally comes with 8gb minimum of ECC memory

Windows 32 only supports a maximum of 4gb of memory.

Please run memtest86 https://www.memtest86.com/

and report the results

The upgrade from windows 32bit to 64 bit is free but requires a clean install as it erases the disk drive.

Hi,

I corrected my post but it really doesn’t matter since the error is at the BIOS level. No OS is installed yet.

 Thanks.

Bios is actually reporting a problem so it is likely memtest86 can also run.

I am not familiar with your system bios diagnostics and use memtest86 exclusively.

The service manual gives some help on memory problems.

IMHO there are problems mixing and matching memory.  Even HP certified ram can be a problem if additional ram is obtained that is not the same manufacturer, uses a newer chipset, or is different size.   This is my experience and opinion only.

I have found a chip in one socket works but might not if in another socket.

Please use air to blow out any dust and examine memory sockets carefully for debris.

I was unable to find any order requirements for your workstation other than Dimm0 must be filled in before Dimm1 and that each channel  needs the same number of memory sticks.

You will have to organize the memory sticks by size and manufacturer and use the memory diagnostic to find the best place for different types.  I would reset the the CMOS or pick a safe (low speed or default) memory profile before running diagnostics.

memtest86 boots quickly from flash but possibly the workstation bios  can be used.

You may want to use only one channel to sort out and verify memory then switch to dual channel.

I  have gone through this on older systems and ended up discarding some sticks that unaccountably cannot work with others.

Hi,

I did blow some compress air in the DIMM3 slot that is reporting the error. All my memory are the same part number from HP (12x 8GB) and it doesn’t matter which DIMM I put in that slot I get the error. So I am wondering, is it a motherboard issue or a processor problem. Being that XEON processor have the memory controller built in (as far as I know).

Thanks.
