Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

My Z800 started to not post the other day.  I had a look around the motherboard and discovered a bunch of capacitors that were all bulging and leaking onto the motherboard.  I've replaced these fine, but also noticed a small surface mount (looks like a capacitor) component that had a large crack across it.  I cannot see the value on it to replace it.  I wondered if the schematics are available for the Z800 or if someone was willing to look at their Z800 and either read me any numbers off of the component or measure it?  I've attached a couple of photos with the component marked.

Thanks!

i would look into replacing the system with a z820,  or possibly a z240 minitower

the part you reference is indeed a capacitor, however it's unmarked and i doubt sams photofacts has this schematic

if you wish to keep the z800 buying a used z800 system may be the best way to go as they cost about 200/300 in turnkey condition

here's a USA one for 120.00

HI,

Thanks for the information, but I would like to repair it.  I hate waste and refurbish old retro computers as part of my business.  I really balk about spending £££'s for something that just needs a 0.02p SMD cap..

If I could even find someone with a Z800 that could measure it in circuit, that would work.  It can't need to be a bang on specific value as it's in the +5v supply circuit.  Other caps of the same size are all 10uf in that circuit.  I'm tempted if no one can help me to just replace it with a 10uf 25v cap.

I really hate this waste culture.  It's a perfectly good dual Xeon workstation crippled by HP bad caps (no surprise there).

Mark.

i doubt the bad cap is the only issue causing the system not to post so unless you have access to "SMT" board rework tools and spare z800 chipsets, caps/resistors and the knowledge and time to do a repair like this it's more cost effective to go the route it previously mentioned

Hi,

Thankfully we do have a fully kitted out workshop with the equipment needed to do SMT rework. That part of the circuit looks like it supplies 5v to the pcie slots so could very well be the reason for post issues. I really just need a schematic or some helpful person to measure the cap in circuit. I've got some 10uf 50v 1206 caps in stock and unless I hear otherwise will replace it with one of those. Nothing to lose at this point.
