HP Z820 Base Model Workstation
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have a HP Z820 Base Model Workstation with dual Xeon2640 2.5 gig processors.

My question is: How do I enable or disable the turbo boost feature? I am know I need to enter BIOS but I do not know how to enter into bios mode to enable or disable turbo boost.

Thank you in advance to anyone who may help me understand how to change this setting.

unless you have modified the bios startup options , it will print  during startup, that "F2" enters the bios

also F9 will select boot device during the startup sequence

also Avid recomends that hyper-thereading be enabled  not disabled for pro tools v9x

per page 8 for the z820 (x79/c602 chipset)

the z840, is a diffrent system from a chipset/cpu perspective based on the intel x99/c612 chipset and runs pro tools v12

under this hardware/software configuration  avid does recomend disabling hyper-threading for Pro Tools 12.7.1

you are trying to run a later version of pro tools on older hardware, Avid does not support this configuration

so you may have problems, i recomend you visit the pro tools board and ask there about using the z820 with v12 of pro tools

you might try looking in the HP service manual,

while i know hyperthreading can be toggled on/off i don't recall a setting for turbo boost.

also there is really no reasion i can think of to disable this feature so i'm currious as to why you want to do this

I am runnimg Pro Tools 12.7.1 and Avid recommends you disable the Hyperthread/turbo Boost to prevent audio errors.

Now that I am going to run Reaper as well and I need to know how to enter Bios and toggle the setting.

So if you know how to enter Bio of this rig please share. I will appreciate it.

I have checked the manual but could not find anything about how to enter bios on boot.

I posted hoping maybe someone on this forum would know how to do this. All the best 🙂

Use the escape key during a cold boot, pressing 1/second.

I have had a few ZX20 workstations that I needed to switch to a PS2 keyboard and mouse over USB to get in.

There are some mods I do to the default BIOS settings to make it more like what I am used to from our ZX00 and xw generation workstations.  I run in Legacy mode.

I'll get you the path to the settings you requested shortly.

Tuning of BIOS is a time consuming project, and you should read up on how to capture your BIOS settings before you start and as you go with the built in Replicated Setup method HP has provided.  Carefully catalog each of the captures you do because they all will get mixed up in your mind over time.  This RS method lets you capture an exact copy of your settings as a small .txt file and you can go back and forth from one clone to another this way, and still not lose what you started with if you keep things organized.  I do a folder for each, with a small notepad file included stating what I did.

This approach has saved my bacon multiple times as my experimentation went too far.

You're going to have to work at this.....
