HP Z820 Workstation
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HELP!!!! For sometime now, I have been having issues with this HP z820 E5-2660 dual processor Quadro K2000 GPU 64 gb ram. A few years ago I used this workstation for multi- camera video recording with the vMix software and it worked flawlessly. Over time it started freezing, apps were not responding even going to task manager took a long time. If I left the computer on over night, I would notice that the workstation would have restarted during the night and this was not because of a Windows forced update. During the day it would just freeze. I thought that perhaps it was the graphics card causing the problem so I recently purchased a Gigabyte GeForce RTX 5060 ti and installed it.  This seemed to speed up the workstation quite a bit but it is still freezing especially with using vMix and trying to remote a Call in (video call from a remote location. Besides the new RTX 5060 ti graphics card, there is two video cards, Blackmagic Design Decklink Quad HDMI input card and Blackmagic Design Duo 2  SDI I/O card installed.

I have a high end client coming in tomorrow morning (Thursday, June 19, 2025) and I need the system running flawlessly. Any emergency help is appreciated.

win 11  runs fine on a z820 if the installer is modded to bypass the CPU/TPM checks

you most likely have a software related issue either do a clean reinstall or be prepared to spend hours/days trying to track down the cause

however if the issue is only with software that connects through the internet, then it might be possible to determine the cause in a reasonable time frame you will need to start by checking/confirming the internet providers connection is stable and running at it's rated speed without excessive lag have them do a line test if necessary

DGroves: Thank you for your reply. Before I heard back from you (or saw you message) I went ahead and installed a freshly erased SSD 480 GB drive and made a fresh install of the Windows 10 Pro. Using this computer for vMix video switching and Davinci resolve, I have two Blackmagic Design Video I/o cards installed,Decklink  Quad HDMI Ins and Decklink Duo 2, plus the new GeForce RTX 5060 ti GPU.  I had to leave the NvIdia Quadro K2000 installed in the computer in order for the computer to see the RTX 5060 ti, even though I've read this is not recommended.  Everything seemed to be working well until I installed the drivers for a Tascam audio interface 16x08 then it started freezing. An obvious software/driver conflict and then the computer froze. I once again erased the SSD and placed a fresh install of Win 10 Pro and started installing the apps and thought, perhaps I need to go ahead and remove the K2000 GPU and rely on the 5060ti however even after I changed the BIOS to Legacy for the GPU as was recommended, the computer fails to send signal to the HDMI output to monitor. I reinstalled the K2000 and it booted up properly.  Should I just leave the K2000 installed? Will the vMix software use the GPU of the 5060ti or default to the K2000?  Now I have to figure out why the Tascam audio drivers are conflicting with the vMix app.  Problems with the Tascam 16x08 are spotty and nothing definitively mentioned by vMix users. Thanks for the headsup on upgrading to Win 11. I will look into this as well.

DGroves, you mentioned "win 11  runs fine on a z820 if the installer is modded to bypass the CPU/TPM checks." How would I accomplish this? What are the steps? (Thanks!)

for the video issue your card may require a firmware update to the vbios to correct a issue

for installing windows 11 prof download the MS ISO and then use the program "Rufus" to modify the ISO's installer to by pass the CPU/TPM checks when it creates a bootable win-11 usb installer key

https://rufus.ie/en/

or, PM me and I'll tell you what's required for me to send you a pre compiled z820 ISO/USB key which has all necessary drivers integrated into the installer
